Sustainability on Operation Seal Bay
Lazerbeam is part of the Albert Sustainable scheme and our aim is to make our productions more sustainable. So we just wanted to update people how we were about to make our Operation Seal Bay production more sustainable.
From our final footprint for our production Operation Seal Bay we now understand our carbon emissions are highest for accommodation, transport and energy use out on location, so our plan is work our way how we can reduce this on future productions. So here are some actions we took to cut our carbon for this series:
Travel & Accommodation:
Maximised vehicle sharing for transport to and from the location. Using only the Lazerbeam van as much as we could for shoots.
Where that wasn’t possible we encouraged our crews to do a car-share where possible.
We encouraged travel by train where possible, as this cuts down on fuel emissions.
We opted to stay together in Air BnBs was this cuts down on energy use and waste.
Printing & Paperwork:
All paper and paper products were obtained from a recycled source. We did our best to minimise the amount of paper that was wasted, therefore all scripts, schedules, amendments, unit lists, Risk Assessments etc were issued electronically and hard copies were printed only when requested.
We always asked our crew to return used paperwork for confidential shredding and recycling at the production office.
In the office:
Use of low energy lighting around the office site.
We asked our crew to power down equipment when not in use.
Reduced heating in winter – blankets and fleeces!
On Location:
Low energy lights were used. All batteries charged via Octopus provided electricity.
We hired costumes which could then be returned.
Props we built will be donated to the local museum so they will have a second life!
Materials & Waste:
We have provided our crews with reusable water bottles to refill from a local water supply.
Recycled as much waste as possible on location following best practices.
Next time, we hope to do even better!
